Q3W5 Across Five Aprils Celebration Sign-up

 

Loyalty and challenges await as our brave and thoughtful fifth graders prepare to journey into the pages of Across Five Aprils. As they near the end of this powerful Civil War story, students have been deeply engaged in exploring themes of courage, loyalty, sacrifice, and the challenges faced by families during times of conflict. To celebrate their hard work and meaningful discussions, we are excited to host an immersive Literature Celebration inspired by Irene Hunt’s unforgettable novel.
The date for our next Literature Celebration is fast approaching! We will be celebrating Across Five Aprils on Thursday, February 26th from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

It is your responsibility to purchase a copy of the book and ensure your child brings it to school before that date. It is helpful when the students bring the same book so that we can use the same page numbers. Q2W7 December 1 - 5

 Happy December!

On Monday our scholar will bring home a list of historical figures that they may research for their Independent Study Project.   Please review with your scholar tonight and rank your top ten figures to study.  Your scholar will choose his or her historical figure the following day, 12/2.  Independent Study assignment packets will be discussed with your scholar and sent home on Wednesday, 12/3. 

Upcoming Dates:

12/2   5th graders choose their historical figure to research during ISP week. 

12/3   Independent Study Projects are assigned; materials will be sent home. 

12/9   Spelling Bee

12/19 House Poetry War   

12/19 Last Day of Semester 1

Academics at a Glance:

Grammar: Quiz over Plural Nouns on Thursday, 12/4.

Writing: Drafting essays describing a historical figure. 

Literature:  Voyage of the Dawn Treader essay due Thursday, 12/4.  Reading the novel through Chapter 8.  Lepanto Week 1 assessed Friday, 12/5.

Spalding: Test on Friday, 12/5.

Math: Reviewing addition, subtraction, and multiplication of fractions. 

Science: Introduction to Astronomy with a focus on the components of our solar system and the effects of Earth's revolution and rotation.

History: Continuing to study the Italian Renaissance with a focus on patronage of the arts.  For homework on Tuesday, 12/2, students will write a reflection about the impact of Florence on the flourishing of the Italian Renaissance for a quiz grade.

Science: We will describe how to separate a variety of mixtures and solutions using our knowledge of physical properties of matter.
